Job Description Title- Teacher

Reports To: Principal and Assistant Principal

FLSA Designation: Exempt

Job Goal: To lead students toward their protentional for intellectual, emotional, psychological, and physical growth and maturation through provision of appropriate guidance and learning experiences. To effectively teach children to learn.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate
  • Degree with endorsement to teach the subject and/or grades for which the teacher is assigned

Skills and Physical Abilities:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • The teacher is regularly required to speak, listen walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display.
  • The teacher may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, ability to focus, and peripheral vision.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

A teacher should expect to perform the following duties as part of his/her contractual obligations:

  • A teacher should adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Create an environment conducive to effective learning utilizing functional programs of study that align to local and state curriculum guidelines and meet the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students while striving to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • To assist in fostering student attitudes through teaching, in all activities of the school program, the values of citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism.
  • Organize daily class assignments so that instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time; develops weekly lesson plans and instructional materials; translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Teachers shall be responsible for (1) development of good character and desirable attitudes among pupils, (2) proper protection and care of textbooks, equipment, supplies, and the school property, and (3) maintenance of discipline and good order in classes, school buildings and grounds.
  • Teachers are expected to attend all meetings to which they are called by the Superintendent or the principal, and to keep accurate records, and make such reports as required by the principal and/or Superintendent and maintain professional growth and competence through professional development.
  • Assess and communicate student progress to students and parents on a regular basis and provide progress reports as directed and maintain an open communication with students, parents, and staff. Provide students and parents with specific feedback and uses the data or test results to differentiate instruction.
  • Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and assists in developing strategies for individual education plans daily as needed. Upstands and participates in the development, use, implementation of individualized education plans (IPEs) and individualized transition plans/504 plans, including necessary modifications.
  • Participates in administration of state and/or standardized testing as assigned; establishes appropriate testing environment and ensures test security.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters.
  • Punctuality and regularity are expected of teachers in attending classes, meetings, conferences, and in keeping other school appointments. Teachers shall be in their homerooms or assigned areas fifteen minutes before school starts and fifteen minutes after school has been dismissed for the day.
  • Assist in daily duties, of which may be car duty, extra-curricular duties whenever students are involved in school activities during and/or after school.
  • Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g., classroom, school grounds, hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, field trips, etc.)
  • Supervisees and/or assist with extracurricular and co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.

In all professional and personal relations, teachers shall be held in observance of a course of conduct consistent with the ethics of the teaching profession.

Terms of employment: 187-days

Daily work schedule will be determined by the principal or his/her designee. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Employees.
